Jazmyne Lawson, an 18-year-old female of African American ethnicity, tragically lost her life on September 21, 2019, in Cleveland, OH. She was five and a half months pregnant at the time of her death. Jazmyne was one of four victims in a horrific quadruple murder carried out by Terrell Silver. The other victims included Aiyanna Quitman, age 19, Dejuan Damar Willis, age 20, and Christopher Monroe, age 23.
The investigation into the murders revealed that Terrell Silver approached the
victims at a residence near East 144th Street and Kinsman Road. He shot all four victims multiple times as they lay on mattresses on the floor. Silver then fled the scene, leaving the victims' decomposed bodies to be discovered by the Cleveland Division of Police on September 21, 2019.
The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the Cleveland Homicide Initiative, which included the Cleveland Division of Police's Homicide Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The evidence collected, including DNA and gun tool mark evidence, linked Terrell Silver to the crime.
In April 2023, Terrell Silver was arrested and later indicted on multiple charges, including seven counts of aggravated murder, four counts of murder, five counts of felonious assault, one count of attempted murder, and one count of aggravated burglary. He was also found guilty of two counts of having weapons under disability. On September 30, 2024, Silver was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
The sentencing brought some measure of justice to the victims' families, who had endured years of uncertainty and grief. Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley stated that the conviction demonstrated that victims would not be forgotten in Cuyahoga County. Despite Silver's denial of responsibility, the court found him guilty based on the evidence presented.
The tragic loss of Jazmyne Lawson and the other victims serves as a somber reminder of the impact of violent crime on families and communities. The efforts of law enforcement and the justice system in bringing Silver to account highlight the importance of perseverance and collaboration in seeking justice for victims.
