On April 12, 2023, 61-year-old Jemetta S. Cooper was fatally shot during a dispute over a potential eviction at the Shaker Hall apartment complex on Shaker Boulevard in Cleveland, Ohio. The altercation began when Cooper intervened in a confrontation involving a 66-year-old woman facing eviction, her 47-year-old daughter, and her 24-year-old granddaughter. During the incident, the granddaughter allegedly shot Cooper in the chest, resulting in her death.
