Muhsin Yusuf was a 22-year-old Black man from Columbus, Ohio, who attended Hilliard Bradley Highschool. He was remembered by friends and family as a kind, loving, and very caring person whose love for them was "unmeasurable."
On the afternoon of November 22, 2019, Columbus police officers responded to a shooting on the city's northeast side. They found Muhsin lying in a parking lot in the 4600 block of Northtowne Boulevard with a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:40 p.m.
The initial investigation led police to believe the shooting stemmed from an argument Muhsin had the previous day with a 24-year-old man named Mahdi Hassan Mohamed. In the days that followed, authorities charged both Mohamed and a second suspect, Abukar Khamis, with murder in connection with Muhsin's death.
The case proceeded through the Franklin County court system. A defendant later pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and felonious assault for the fatal shooting. Following the plea, the defendant was sentenced to a term in prison.
