KeVonta LaRome DeQuell Cowan, a 21-year-old male from Lima, Ohio, tragically passed away on December 17, 2019. He was born on September 27, 1998, and was known for his love of Michigan football, music, video games, basketball, and football. KeVonta was also fond of cheeseburgers, fries, and spending time with his friends and family.
On the evening of December 17, 2019, police were called to 225 S. Kenilworth Ave. in Lima, where they found KeVonta suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred as Na’Zier Howard, a 19-year-old at the time, was allegedly committing aggravated burglary and/or an offense of violence. Howard was later charged with murder, aggravated murder, and having weapons under disability.
The case went to trial, and Howard faced a jury on November 29, 2022. He was serving a 14-year prison sentence at the London Correctional Institution for armed robberies at Hermies Party Shop and Little Caesar’s in Lima. Howard's co-defendant, Juan Freeman, was sentenced to 28 years in prison for participating in the robberies and additional charges related to escaping from juvenile detention.
The tragic death of KeVonta LaRome DeQuell Cowan has left a lasting impact on his family, friends, and the community of Lima, Ohio. His memory lives on through the love and support of those who knew him.
