De'Monte Rayford, a 20-year-old African American male from Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost his life on August 10, 2020. He was fatally shot near a Gentleman's Club on Channingway Boulevard, just north of I-70 near Brice Road. The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m., and Rayford succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Columbus police arrested Deone Anthony Logan II, a 28-year-old man, in connection with the shooting.
Logan was taken into custody in Akron on August 27, 2020, and was charged with the murder of Rayford. However, in November 2021, Franklin County prosecutors dropped the case against Logan due to insufficient evidence and a lack of willing witnesses.
Despite the challenges in the legal proceedings, the Rayford family and the community continue to seek justice for De'Monte. The case remains a poignant reminder of the ongoing issues of gun violence and the need for effective solutions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
