Deborah Butler, a 50-year-old woman from Columbus, OH, tragically lost her life on August 21, 2021. The incident occurred at her residence on Winterberry Drive, where she was fatally shot by her 56-year-old husband, Anthony Butler. According to police reports, the incident began as a domestic dispute between the couple. Anthony Butler shot Deborah during the altercation and subsequently turned the gun on himself.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus EMS.
The Columbus Division of Police investigated the case and determined it to be a murder-suicide. This tragic event marked the 133rd homicide in Columbus for the year 2021. The police urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit. Resources for domestic violence victims were also made available, including emergency shelter, legal advocacy, support groups, and counseling.
No suspects were identified in the case, as it was determined to be a result of a marital dispute. The investigation concluded with the understanding that the incident was a domestic dispute that escalated into a fatal confrontation.
