On September 10, 2022, at approximately 3:40 p.m., 38-year-old Charles Marshall, a Black male, was found with a gunshot wound in the 600 block of Platt Street in East Toledo, Ohio. Emergency responders transported him to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Lucas County Coroner's Office determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the groin, which pierced the femoral artery, and ruled the death a homicide.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 29-year-old Justin Allison as a suspect in the shooting. Witnesses, along with video and physical evidence, indicated that Allison exited a vehicle, approached Charles Marshall, and fired multiple shots, striking him in the groin area. A murder warrant was issued for Allison on October 20, 2022, leading to his arrest the following day.
In May 2023, Justin Allison entered an Alford plea to the charge of murder. An Alford plea allows a defendant to maintain innocence while acknowledging that the prosecution has sufficient evidence to likely secure a conviction. Subsequently, in June 2023, a Lucas County judge sentenced Allison to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years for the murder of Charles Marshall.
Charles Marshall, born on October 20, 1983, was affectionately known as "Chuck" to his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandfather, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his mother, grandmother, siblings, nephews, nieces, and a host of other family members and friends who cherished his memory.
