Ravon Detrail Jordan, a 19-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on June 22, 2014, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Jordan was attending a house party on Grandview Drive when he was caught in the crossfire between two rival groups. The gunfight, which involved gang members, resulted in over 70 shots being fired. Jordan, an innocent victim, was struck in the head and succumbed to his injuries the following day at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Jordan had been an advocate against gun violence and had spoken out during a Fayetteville City Council meeting in May 2014 about the need to address violence in the city. He specifically mentioned the troubled Barrington Place apartment complex, where his best friend, Shaniqua Simmons, and her boyfriend were killed earlier that year. Despite his efforts to bring attention to the issue, Jordan became the ninth homicide victim in Fayetteville in 2014.
