Antonio Lorenzo Gonzales, a 32-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on July 12, 2020, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The incident occurred behind the Glam-O-Rama laundromat on Hope Mills Road. Gonzales was with a woman when a confrontation with another individual escalated into violence. During the altercation, Gonzales was shot, and the woman accompanying him was assaulted.
The assailant, identified as Mark Anthony Russell, targeted Gonzales for a robbery.
Russell, a 30-year-old male from Fayetteville, was charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon. He was apprehended in Goodland, Kansas, on July 19, 2020, without incident and is awaiting extradition. The investigation revealed that Russell had planned the robbery, which ultimately led to Gonzales' death.
The Fayetteville Police Department has been actively investigating the case, following up on numerous leads and tips from the community. They released an image of an SUV seen near the laundromat on the afternoon of the shooting, asking for the public's assistance in identifying the vehicle.
