Don Antonio Flournoy Sr., a 58-year-old African American man from Fayetteville, North Carolina, tragically passed away on October 28, 2022. He was well-known and loved within his community, leaving behind a daughter, Daphene Colville, a son, Don A. Flournoy Jr., his mother, Jean Flournoy, and sisters, La Davia Flournoy and Wanda Smith, along with two grandchildren.

Zachary Maurice Richardson, a 34-year-old man from Fayetteville, was charged with Flournoy's murder. Flournoy was shot just before 8 p.m. in the 2400 block of Elcar Drive, a neighborhood between Cumberland and Camden roads. He was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Richardson was already in custody for another murder that took place on November 25, 2022, and was later linked to Flournoy's killing.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office announced Richardson's arrest and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with Flournoy's death. The investigation revealed that Richardson shot Flournoy at a home on Elcar Drive off Crystal Springs Road. Despite the tragic nature of the incident, authorities did not believe the two killings were connected.
