On November 6, 2013, a mass shooting occurred at Al's Barber Shop on Detroit's east side, resulting in the deaths of three African American males and injuries to six others. Among the deceased was 61-year-old Joezell Williams, who was standing on the back step of the barbershop with his stepson when gunfire erupted.
