In the early hours of a Monday morning, a dispute at a Detroit gas station tragically escalated, ending the life of 32-year-old Martin Clay of Davison, Michigan. On July 28, 2025, at approximately 4 a.m., Detroit police were called to a Marathon gas station on Puritan Street where they discovered a scene of violence. Clay was found at the entrance of the gas station with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and buttocks and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident, which also
claimed the life of 34-year-old Maria Jenkins of Highland Park and injured two other women, reportedly began as a verbal argument between Clay and another man. The argument turned into a physical fight, during which the suspect is alleged to have pulled out a handgun and fired multiple times, striking the four victims. Jenkins was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The two other victims, a 28-year-old woman and a 39-year-old woman, both from Detroit, sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds.
Following the shooting, authorities identified 30-year-old Jaylen Lee Robinson of Hazel Park as the suspect. He was later taken into custody. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought multiple charges against Robinson, including two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, four counts of felony firearm, and one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Robinson was arraigned and remanded to jail. A probable cause conference was scheduled for August 12, 2025, with a preliminary examination set for August 19, 2025.
