Deshawn Bland, a 21-year-old African American male, was found shot to death on August 28, 2015, in Laurinburg, North Carolina. His body was discovered by a passerby in a yard on McKay Street. The Laurinburg Police Department, led by Chief Darwin Williams, launched an investigation into the homicide. Bland's death was a significant blow to the community, as he was a young man with his whole life ahead of him.
