On New Year's Day in 2015, a hail of gunfire shattered the peace of a New Orleans neighborhood, claiming the lives of 64-year-old Desmond Lange Sr. and his 42-year-old son, Desmonde Lange Jr. The father and son were standing by their pickup truck in the driveway of their family home when an assailant in a vehicle opened fire and then sped away. The elder Lange was a housing rehabilitation supervisor, and neighbors and relatives described the family as 'good people,' expressing their shock and
disbelief at the tragic event.
The double homicide compounded an earlier tragedy for the Lange family. Nearly a decade prior, in 2005, Desmond Lange Sr.'s youngest son, Jeffrey Michael Lange, was also a victim of gun violence, shot and killed while driving his car at the age of 29. In the immediate aftermath of the 2015 shooting, the New Orleans Police Department stated that the investigation was ongoing and that they had not yet identified a motive or any suspects.
Despite the initial investigation, publicly available information and news reports in the years following the murders of Desmond Lange Sr. and Desmonde Lange Jr. have not provided any updates on arrests or the identification of any suspects. The case appears to have gone cold, leaving a family devastated by repeated acts of violence without any public resolution or justice for their loved ones.
