Corey Blue, a 31-year-old male, was killed by gun violence on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. His death left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who remembered him as a beautiful spirit.
The investigation into Corey Blue's murder would eventually become part of a much larger federal case against a violent street gang.
In August 2015, a federal jury convicted three members of the Ride or Die gang for a multitude of crimes, including racketeering, drug trafficking, and several murders. One of the convicted individuals was Sidney Patterson.
Patterson was found guilty on seven counts, which included the murder of Corey Blue in aid of racketeering and causing death through the use of a firearm. The convictions of Patterson and his fellow gang members, Deloyd Jones and Byron Jones, were the result of a collaborative investigation by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including the NOPD-led Multi-Agency Gang Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Following the trial, Sidney Patterson faced a potential sentence of life plus ten years in prison for his role in the criminal enterprise and the murder of Corey Blue.
