Desmond Deron Smith, a 36-year-old African American male, was found unresponsive near the woods behind an apartment complex on Enterprise Avenue in Fayetteville, NC, on the night of September 20, 2015. Smith had sustained gunshot wounds and was discovered by Fayetteville police officers who responded to a report of shots fired in the area. Despite efforts to administer CPR and subsequent transportation to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Smith was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
