Kotasha Griffith, a 27-year-old Black male, was found dead in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on July 23, 2021. His body was discovered in the driver's seat of a vehicle, slumped over the steering wheel, with at least one gunshot wound. The vehicle was located in the 6800 block of Marlowe Marlow Drive, and it appeared that Griffith had been in the car for several hours before being found.
The discovery was made by someone who noticed the vehicle stopped in the road with the engine running and the driver not moving.
The investigation into Kotasha Griffith's death led to the arrest of two individuals: Jamel Brunson, a 21-year-old Black male, and Damaryia Mack, a 20-year-old Black female. Both suspects were apprehended by U.S. Marshals in separate locations—Brunson in Fayetteville and Mack in Wilmington. They were charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and felony conspiracy. Both suspects are being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.
