Kareem Lamar Johnson, a 21-year-old African American male, was tragically shot multiple times on June 20, 2016, in Burlington, North Carolina. The incident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. at 702 Tillman Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was initially taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center for treatment and later transferred to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, where he succumbed to his injuries on June 22, 2016.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a disturbance involving approximately four to eight people took place at the residence when Johnson was shot. Following the shooting, three to four individuals fled the property. The police urged anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
In the aftermath of the incident, four men were charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery in connection with Kareem Lamar Johnson's death. The suspects included Jaiquan Monitique McDaniel, 19, Khalil Dyshaun Moore, 17, Tevin Devenita Crisp, 24, and Keyshawn Ter’ll Chrisp, 17. McDaniel was arrested and taken into custody at the Guilford County Jail, while Moore surrendered to the Burlington Police Department and was held in the Alamance County Jail. Crisp was arrested in Burlington and also held in the Alamance County Jail. Chrisp, who was initially at large and considered armed and dangerous, eventually turned himself in to the authorities.
The police indicated that the shooting stemmed from a drug deal gone wrong. The investigation into the incident continued, with some information and motives being withheld at the time. The authorities also mentioned that they would be seeking the death penalty against one or more of the individuals charged in the case.
