On July 15, 2024, just before midnight, Burlington Police responded to a reported shooting at 1042 Bellvue Street. Upon arrival, officers found 24-year-old Kemori "Kemo" Tyrick Booth suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital in Greensboro, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Investigations revealed that Booth had been involved in an altercation at his residence with individuals he knew, indicating a targeted incident. The suspects had fled the scene before police arrived.
Subsequently, two teenagers were arrested in connection with Booth's death. Nineteen-year-old Chastin Mekhi Moses was charged with first-degree murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was held at the Alamance County Detention Center without bond. A 16-year-old male was also charged with first-degree murder and placed in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Booth, a graduate of Hugh M. Cummings High School in Burlington, was remembered as a kind and loving individual who always greeted everyone with a smile. He was a loving son, brother, and father to a beautiful 8-month-old daughter.
In the wake of his passing, a GoFundMe campaign was established to assist his family with funeral expenses and to set up a fund for his young daughter.
The Burlington Police Department continues to seek information regarding this case and encourages anyone with details to come forward.
