Deykwon Lavente Gilmore, an 18-year-old Black male from Burlington, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on September 28, 2021. His body was discovered near the railroad tracks on Railroad Street in Burlington. Initially, detectives believed that Gilmore had been shot and killed, but the immediate cause of death was still under investigation at the time.
The incident was being treated as a homicide, and the Burlington Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward.
The investigation into Deykwon Gilmore's death led to the arrest of two suspects. Cylence Carlos Russell, an 18-year-old Black male from Burlington, and Michael Tyrelle Bowe, a 26-year-old Black male from Graham, were both charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with Gilmore's death. Russell was arrested on November 8, 2021, while Bowe had been arrested earlier on October 19, 2021. Both suspects were held at the Alamance County Jail without bond.
Deykwon Gilmore was a beloved member of his community, known for his passion for music and playing the drums. He attended Williams High School and had started a record label under the name Gilateen Records, 2 Reckelezz Entertainment. His untimely death left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who remembered him as a happy, intelligent, and loving individual. The community's support and the efforts of Crimestoppers played a crucial role in the arrests of the suspects.
