Anthony Lynn Carter, a 29-year-old male from Lumberton, North Carolina, passed away on April 24, 2019. He was found with a gunshot wound inside his home and later succumbed to his injuries at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. The incident occurred following an argument between Carter, Eric Neil Hammonds, and other family members. Hammonds, a 23-year-old male from Lumberton, was charged with second-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling.
He was taken into custody by the Robeson County Sheriff's Office and held at the Robeson County Detention Center with a bail set at $500,000.
The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute involving Carter, Hammonds, and other family members. The Robeson County Sheriff's Office Homicide and Criminal Investigations Divisions are handling the case. The funeral services were held at Crumpler Funeral Home in Red Springs, North Carolina, with burial following at St. Anna Baptist Church Cemetery in Pembroke.
