Eric Delontae Brooks, a 35-year-old African American male, was found dead in his home at 104 Bright Street, Goldsboro, NC, on June 23, 2019. Brooks had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred early in the morning, around 5:50 a.m., and another man, Rodney Calvin Randall, 37, was also found with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he remained in
critical condition.
The Goldsboro Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting and quickly identified suspects. Manyele Lofton, a 33-year-old male, was arrested on June 24, 2019, and charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. Lofton was taken into custody at the Irish Inn Motel located at 1104 Sunburst Drive and was held without bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for the following day.
Additionally, the police were searching for a second suspect, David Dekarlo Sampson, who was wanted for accessory after the fact to murder. Authorities urged anyone with information about Sampson's whereabouts or the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers.
