Xavier Adams, a 23-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on November 6, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred at an apartment complex on Campus Walk Lane, near the UNC Charlotte campus. Xavier was the victim of an assault with a deadly weapon during an alleged robbery. Despite receiving medical aid, he was pronounced deceased later that night.
The investigation into Xavier's death led to the arrest of two suspects. On December 3, 2020, 27-year-old Willie Swinton was arrested and charged with Xavier's murder. Swinton was apprehended in Los Angeles, California, by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and federal law enforcement partners. He was later extradited to North Carolina to face charges.
Further investigation identified a second suspect, 22-year-old Azariel Araque. Araque was arrested on January 19, 2021, in Lexington, North Carolina, with the assistance of CMPD's VCAT. He was charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and accessory after the fact to murder. Both suspects are currently facing legal proceedings related to Xavier's death.
