Latrell, affectionately known as "Trell," was born on June 28, 1999, in Greenville, NC, to Liquata Heath and Tyrell Griggs. He grew up in Greenville, attending Pitt County Schools and graduating from South Central High School. Latrell was known for his athleticism, participating in football, basketball, and track.

On the fateful day of May 27, 2021, Latrell Heath was involved in a shooting incident outside a Dollar General store located at 3100 Stantonsburg Road in Greenville. The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. when shots were fired between the vehicle Latrell was traveling in and another vehicle in the store's parking lot. Latrell's brother, Kevion Heath, 27, also sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg during the exchange.
The suspect in the shooting, Darrell Ray Kendrick, a 20-year-old male from Winterville, was apprehended later that day by the Greenville Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, NC SBI, Raleigh Police Department, and the Wake County Sheriff’s Office. Kendrick was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Latrell Heath. The authorities recovered a gun believed to have been used in the crime.
The investigation revealed that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public. The preliminary information gathered at the scene suggested that there was an exchange of gunfire between the two vehicles involved.
