On January 10, 2025, 80-year-old white male Anthony Gribble and his 76-year-old wife, Paula Gribble, were tragically shot and killed in their home on Peace Ridge Court in Greenville, North Carolina. Their son, T.D. Gribble, who lived next door, received a call from his mother alerting him to the presence of an intruder. Upon arriving, he discovered both parents fatally wounded and confronted the suspect, 55-year-old David Lever, holding him at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived.
This decisive action likely prevented further loss of life.
Earlier that day, 64-year-old Enrique Reyes, a retired East Carolina University professor and neighbor of Lever, was found shot multiple times in his driveway on Forest Acres Drive. Investigations revealed that Lever had left his home around 1:28 p.m., shortly after Reyes returned from a nearby store. Lever then proceeded to a gas station, where he fired shots before heading to the Gribbles' residence.
Authorities discovered that Lever possessed an extensive arsenal, with over 50 firearms and substantial ammunition found in his home and van. He was arrested at the Gribbles' residence and charged with three counts of murder. Lever is currently held without bond at the Pitt County Detention Center, with additional charges pending.
The motive behind these killings remains unclear. While Lever had previously served as the Gribbles' realtor in 2014, no known connection between him and Reyes has been established. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to understand the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
