Shelton Dwayne Long, a 33-year-old African American male, was found dead with a gunshot wound in Wilmington, North Carolina, on November 5, 2021. The incident occurred in the early morning hours in the 4200 block of River Road. A 911 call reported that Long was not breathing inside a silver Chevrolet Impala with the doors open. The caller initially believed it to be an overdose, but upon arrival, officers discovered Long had sustained a gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
