Melanie Shamel, a 52-year-old woman from Lexington, North Carolina, was found dead on June 12, 2022. Melanie, who was of Caucasian ethnicity, was discovered alongside her husband, James Shamel III, aged 47, in their home on Old Mill Farm Road. Both individuals had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The Davidson County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the incident, which was initially reported as a murder-suicide.
