Louisa Emily 'Lou' Holder Hazel, a 74-year-old white woman, passed away on January 3, 1953, in Lexington, Davidson County, North Carolina. Her death was later revealed to be a result of poisoning, a method employed by her daughter, Nannie Doss, who was a notorious serial killer. Nannie Doss, also known as 'The Giggling Granny,' confessed to the murders of multiple family members, including her mother, Louisa Holder Hazel.
