Hurebaves Ransom Williams, a 33-year-old man, was tragically shot and killed on July 5, 2022, at a gas station on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the early afternoon, just before 1:30 p.m., when Williams was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 3700 block of New Bern Avenue. Despite being transported to the hospital for treatment, Williams succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Raleigh police launched an investigation that led to
the arrest of two individuals. Trayvon Tarique Reams, an 18-year-old male, was charged with murder, while Tia Asia Kemp, also 18 years old, was charged with accessory after the fact in connection with Williams' death. Both suspects were taken into custody and held at the Wake County Detention Center.
The investigation revealed that Reams shot Williams and then fled the scene in a vehicle with Kemp. Arrest warrants indicated that Kemp attempted to hide the vehicle used in the getaway. Additionally, Reams and Kemp faced charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon stemming from a separate incident that occurred the previous month. In that incident, they allegedly assaulted someone with a handgun before stealing $725.
Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the shooting, but they have stated that it was not a random act or a case of road rage. The relationship between the suspects and the victim remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather information and seek tips from the public.
