Eric Behrends, a 29-year-old man from Charlotte, NC, was tragically killed on the night of September 22, 2022. Eric, who was known for his sense of humor and love for video games, was walking home from a 7-Eleven in the Steele Creek area when he was shot in the back of the head by an unknown assailant. The incident occurred near the entrance of Rivergate Apartments on South Tryon Street.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a 911 call for a welfare check around 11:15 p.m.
and found Eric lying on the side of the road. Despite the efforts of multiple officers and a K-9 unit, no suspect was found. Eric's family, including his mother Theresa and father Bob, have expressed their grief and confusion over the senseless act, noting that nothing was missing from Eric's possessions and there was no indication of robbery.
The case remains unsolved, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released surveillance video from the convenience store in hopes of gathering more information from the public.
