On November 9, 2006, Rodney Sherwood Segar, age 36, was fatally shot on the Brookshire Freeway near the ramp to Independence Boulevard in Charlotte, North Carolina. Segar had pulled over and exited his vehicle, which remained running on the side of the freeway. Several passersby stopped to assist and called for help, but he was pronounced dead at the scene due to gunshot wounds.
