Donald Scott Taylor, a 21-year-old Black man, was tragically murdered on Memorial Day, May 30, 2022, at a Quik Trip gas station on Central Avenue in Charlotte, NC. The incident occurred during a drag racing investigation. Taylor was involved in a minor fender bender in the Quik Trip parking lot, which resulted in minor scratches and bumps. The occupants of the other vehicle involved in the accident exited their car and shot at Taylor multiple times.
Officers responded to the scene where they heard the shots being fired and found Taylor suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.
Following the incident, a thorough investigation was conducted with the assistance of multiple patrol divisions and tips from community members. As a result, two suspects were identified and arrested. Kedar Rogers, a 22-year-old man, was charged with murder, while Ibn Reid, a 29-year-old man, was charged with accessory after the fact. Both suspects were arrested on May 31, 2022, and were brought to the Law Enforcement Center for interviews with homicide detectives. After the interviews, they were transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
