Deputy Sheriff George H. Jenerette, aged 36, was shot and killed on March 30, 1922, while attempting to arrest a murder suspect in Allen Parish, Louisiana. The suspect had earlier that morning murdered the foreman of a lumber company. When Deputy Jenerette located the suspect, they exchanged gunfire, resulting in Deputy Jenerette's death. The suspect was seriously wounded in the exchange but was taken into custody.
