Trooper Donald Charles Cleveland, aged 26, was shot and killed on July 2, 1977, during a traffic stop near Lafayette, Louisiana. He had stopped a vehicle on Louisiana Highway 94 after it left a nightclub between Lafayette and Breaux Bridge. The driver, a 17-year-old juvenile who had just been released from prison for a murder he committed two years earlier, was the one who shot Trooper Cleveland.
