In the line of duty, Police Officer Richard James Davidson, a 23-year-old male, lost his life on January 2, 1987, in Shreveport, Louisiana. On that fateful day, Officer Davidson, a three-year veteran of the force, was among the officers responding to a burglary in progress at the Kon Tiki Restaurant located at 5815 Youree Drive.
While searching the premises for the suspect, the officers' attention was drawn to a closed bathroom door. Unaware of the imminent danger, Officer Davidson opened the door and was fatally shot by the suspect who was hiding inside. The tragic event unfolded quickly, as fellow officers on the scene immediately responded to the gunfire.
In the ensuing moments, the suspect was shot and killed by the other officers present at the restaurant. This decisive action prevented any further loss of life. Officer Davidson was later laid to rest at Centuries Cemetery. The incident left a lasting mark on the Shreveport Police Department and the community he served.
