In the early morning hours of June 20, 2021, a fatal encounter unfolded in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving 31-year-old Sandy J. Ferreira, a male, dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. in the 7100 block of Yorktown Terrace, located off National Turnpike. When officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Ferreira's body between two vehicles.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation led to the arrest of 26-year-old Guillermo Valdes de Lombillio Chavez, who was subsequently charged with murder. Chavez told investigators that a verbal argument with Ferreira had escalated into a physical struggle. He claimed that Ferreira drew a gun, and during the ensuing struggle to gain control of the weapon, it discharged several times, striking Ferreira.
However, detectives noted that the location of Ferreira's injuries did not seem to be consistent with the account provided by Chavez. During his arraignment, where he pleaded not guilty, Chavez made the surprising claim through an interpreter that the victim was his brother and that they shared the same mother. A judge ordered him not to have any contact with the victim's family. Chavez's bond was set at $100,000. Police reported that all individuals involved in the incident had been accounted for.
