In the early morning hours of November 16, 2020, the life of 26-year-old Austin Grey Fitzpatrick, a white male, was tragically cut short in the Old Louisville neighborhood of Kentucky. Having just returned from a refreshing weekend camping trip, he was in the process of unpacking his vehicle when he was confronted and fatally shot. The incident, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of S.
3rd Street, is believed to have been a carjacking, with his car being stolen after the shooting. First responders found him at the scene, but he was pronounced dead.
Austin was a recent graduate of the University of Louisville, where he earned a degree in graphic design in 2018. He was remembered by friends and family as a talented artist with a creative mind, a kind and sympathetic heart, and a deep love for the outdoors. His parents, Eva Helms and Leo Fitzpatrick, described the immense pain of their loss and have publicly pleaded for anyone with information to come forward to aid the investigation.
