On the night of September 14, 2019, Kyle Lentz was at Cherokee Park, a popular local spot. It was there, near an area known as Big Rock, that an argument escalated into a fatal encounter. Just before 10 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting and found Kyle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to University Hospital, but the injuries were too severe, and he passed away the following day, on September 15, 2019. The investigation into Kyle's death quickly led to a suspect. An acquaintance, 18-year-old Kalvin Bezy, also known as Bradley Kalvin, was identified by witnesses at the scene. According to police, an altercation between Lentz and Bezy preceded the shooting. In a surprising turn of events, Bezy returned to the scene of the crime while the investigation was underway and was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. Bezy was held on a $500,000 bond as the Louisville Metro Police Department's Major Crimes Unit continued to piece together the events that led to the tragic loss of a young man's life. The handgun used in the shooting was not immediately recovered.
