In the late summer of 2022, the life of 32-year-old Jermaine Colston of Lafayette, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. On September 6th, what began as an ordinary day ended in violence when Colston was found deceased in a parking garage in Shreveport. The discovery was made in the 100 block of Lake Street, where responding Shreveport Police officers were met with a grim scene. Colston had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity.
Investigators from the Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Units were promptly dispatched to the parking garage to begin the arduous process of piecing together the events that led to Colston's death. They carefully canvassed the area and collected items of evidence, hoping to find clues that would lead them to a suspect. At the time, the Shreveport Police Department reported that the investigation was in its early stages and ongoing. Jermaine Joseph Colston, known to his loved ones as 'Jay,' was remembered as a man with a good and generous heart, someone who would give his last to help another. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and was a student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, just hours away from earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with aspirations of becoming a lawyer. His family was of great importance to him, and he was cherished by his mother, siblings, and a host of other relatives and friends. His funeral services were held on September 17, 2022, followed by his burial in Combre Memorial Park.
Despite the initial investigation and the public's call for assistance, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the murder of Jermaine Colston. The case remains an open investigation, leaving his family and community awaiting answers and the justice he deserves.
