On a summer afternoon in New Orleans, tragedy struck in the 2400 block of Arts Street. On July 10, 2012, at approximately 2:00 p.m., neighbors were startled by the sound of multiple gunshots. In the backyard of his grandmother's home, 18-year-old Jaquon Jasper Pittman was found, having been fatally shot in the chest. Another person with him, identified by family as his girlfriend, sustained a non-life-threatening graze wound during the violent encounter.

Pittman, was just days away from a promising future, with plans to enlist in the Air National Guard. His life was cut short in what family members believe was an attack by two gunmen who fired more than a dozen shots before fleeing the scene. When first responders arrived, they discovered Pittman's body, and he was pronounced dead at the location.
In the years that have followed the shooting, the case has remained unsolved. Despite appeals from Jaquon's family for witnesses to come forward with information, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The investigation into the death of Jaquon Jasper Pittman is ongoing and is considered an open homicide case by the New Orleans Police Department. A reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible has been offered by Crimestoppers. As of now, there are no publicly identified suspects in his killing.
