Breya Batiste, a 20-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on December 14, 2014, in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana. The incident occurred when Breya was shot by her boyfriend, Donovan Kennedy, during a domestic dispute. The community was deeply affected by her untimely death, and over 100 people gathered to mourn and offer support to her family at a candlelit vigil held at the same spot where she was shot.
