In the cool of a November evening in Shreveport, Louisiana, the life of 23-year-old Latoya Bryant was tragically cut short. On November 19, 2015, gunshots shattered the night on Natalie Street, leaving a devastating impact on the community. Latoya, a young Black female, was struck by at least one bullet in her upper body. First responders rushed her to University Health, but her injuries proved to be fatal.
Alongside Latoya that evening was 26-year-old Jamaria Holloway, who was also
wounded in the attack. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds but managed to flee the immediate scene on foot. He was discovered a short distance away and was transported to the hospital, where he was expected to survive. The violent encounter unfolded as the two stood in front of a residence.
In the immediate aftermath, Shreveport Police Violent Crimes detectives began their investigation. Eyewitness accounts provided a limited description of the assailants: three Black males, all dressed in dark clothing with bandanas obscuring their faces. According to initial reports, the suspects approached Latoya and Jamaria and, following a brief exchange of words, opened fire.
Despite the initial leads and the plea for public assistance through Crime Stoppers, the trail of the three suspects appears to have gone cold. Online sources and news reports in the years following the shooting do not contain information regarding any arrests, charges, trials, or convictions in connection with the murder of Latoya Bryant. The case, a painful memory for her family and the Shreveport community, seemingly remains unresolved, with those responsible for her untimely death yet to be brought to justice.
