Sharon Gosey, a 59-year-old Black woman, lost her life following a domestic incident at her home in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her death marked a tragic end to a situation that unfolded inside her residence in the west Shreveport community.
On the night of Tuesday, April 9, 2024, just after 11 p.m., Shreveport Police received a 911 call from a man who said he had just shot his mother.
Officers responded to the home in the 4700 block of Westwood Park Drive, where they found Sharon Gosey suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, Gosey died from her injuries at 6:03 a.m. the next morning, Wednesday, April 10.
The man who called 911 was identified as Gosey’s son, 36-year-old Lederrick Gant. When police arrived at the scene, Gant confessed to shooting his mother and was taken into custody. Investigators learned the weapon used was a .40-caliber pistol. Sources reported that Gant was a convicted felon with a prior arrest record that included offenses such as simple battery and resisting an officer.
Gant was initially arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder. Following his mother's death at the hospital, authorities upgraded the charge to one count of second-degree murder. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office ordered an autopsy to be performed. Gosey’s death was the 20th homicide in Caddo Parish in 2024. As of April 2024, the Shreveport Police Department's investigation into the case was ongoing.
