Delgado Community College with aspirations of becoming a nurse. She was also a medical assistant at Ochsner Health. To provide for her young daughter, she had taken on a second job driving for a food delivery service, which she was reportedly doing the night of the shooting. Friends and family remembered her as a vibrant person who was passionate about caring for others and was the driving force in encouraging her friends to pursue their nursing education alongside her.
The New Orleans Police Department investigated the incident as part of a concerning increase in shootings on the city's interstates that year. While authorities noted that some of the roadway shootings had been linked to road rage, a specific motive in Ceyonne Riley's case could not be immediately identified, leading to the belief that it was a random act of violence.
