A 37-year-old Black man from LaPlace, Louisiana, Alan Burl's life came to a tragic end in the fall of 2015. His family grew concerned after not hearing from him for several days, prompting his sister to report him missing on November 2nd of that year. Burl, a local recording studio owner, was last seen on the evening of October 29th, getting into an unfamiliar vehicle at his residence on Gardenia Drive.
At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being approximately six-feet, one-inch tall, weighing 180 pounds, with short, wavy black hair. He was reportedly wearing a black T-shirt, black pants, and Reebok tennis shoes.
The search for Alan Burl concluded in a heartbreaking discovery on November 12th. Acting on a tip, deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office located a body in a wooded area along U.S. 51, north of LaPlace in a community known as Ruddock. Due to the condition of the remains, immediate identification was not possible. Investigators had to rely on dental records to confirm that the deceased was indeed Alan Burl.
The subsequent autopsy revealed that Burl had been shot, and his death was officially classified as a homicide, marking the fifth in the parish for that year. Law enforcement officials did not release specific details about the nature of his gunshot wounds. At the time the initial articles were published in late 2015, authorities had not identified any suspects in connection with the murder. The Sheriff's Office appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the individuals responsible for Alan Burl's death.
