In the quiet Kingswood Subdivision of New Orleans East, a horrific scene unfolded on a Tuesday evening, shattering the neighborhood's sense of peace. Inside a home on Edgefield Drive on July 26, 2016, 44-year-old Freddie Burgess, a male, and his 59-year-old mother, Debra Burgess, were victims of a fatal shooting. The tranquility of the evening was pierced by the sound of eight to nine gunshots, a sound that prompted neighbors to alert the authorities around 6:30 p.m.
