In the late hours of a Tuesday in July 2016, the life of 17-year-old Devon Martes came to a tragic end in Metairie, Louisiana. Martes, a Black male, was fatally shot by a Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputy following a pursuit that led them to a newspaper warehouse. The incident began to unfold when deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity, with witnesses seeing individuals rolling tires down the street.
