On a tragic Tuesday in Metairie, Louisiana, the life of 17-year-old Tyris Dontrell James was cut short. An African American male, James was found on January 30, 2018, having been fatally shot in the head. His body was discovered on North Arnoult Street after being pulled from a vehicle and left on the pavement. The shocking discovery launched an investigation by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
It was determined that the young man had been shot at a different location before his
body was abandoned. Investigators quickly made progress in the case, identifying and apprehending three suspects in connection with the homicide. The individuals taken into custody were 17-year-olds Valentin Martinez and Chicobi Smith, along with 21-year-old Angelo Holmes. All three were charged with second-degree murder.
While authorities believe that Tyris James was acquainted with the suspects, the specific motive behind the violent act remained unclear as the investigation continued. The community and his family, who knew him as a student at Net Charter of New Orleans School, were left to mourn the sudden and senseless loss of a young life.
