In June of 2019, a tragic and random series of events unfolded in Metairie, Louisiana, forever altering the lives of several families. Isai Cadalzo, a 22-year-old male who had moved to the area from Honduras, was one of the victims in a senseless shooting spree. He was on his way home from work on a Monday when his life was cut short. Cadalzo was known by his loved ones as a kind and devout individual who played guitar at his church and had a passion for helping others, including the
homeless.
The man responsible for this string of violence was identified as 22-year-old Sean Barrette. His attacks appeared to be entirely random, with no connection established between him and the individuals he targeted. The day after Cadalzo's death, Barrette continued his rampage, killing two more men, Nicky Robeau, 57, and Manuel Caronia, 45, as they were out picking up car parts. The investigation would later link Barrette to a fourth murder that occurred earlier in the month in New Orleans East. The families of the victims were left reeling, struggling to comprehend the sudden and violent loss of their loved ones.
The swift arrest of Sean Barrette brought a small measure of relief to the grieving families. The subsequent legal proceedings revealed a history of mental health issues for Barrette. In June of 2025, justice was served when a Jefferson Parish judge sentenced Sean Barrette to three life sentences plus an additional 180 years in prison. He was convicted on eight counts related to the four random shootings. During the sentencing, the court heard emotional impact statements from the victims' families, who remembered their loved ones and condemned the cowardly acts of the convicted killer.
