On a Friday evening in Metairie, Louisiana, the life of 35-year-old Jesus Angel Fructuoso was tragically cut short. On May 17, 2019, Fructuoso was the victim of a fatal shooting, a violent end to a life that his family remembered as sweet and humble. The incident that led to his death unfolded on a busy interstate service road, stemming from what was described as a disturbance in the Fat City area.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify a suspect.
Edna Estrada, a 31-year-old woman from Marrero, was arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office booked her on a charge of second-degree murder. Investigators determined that the shooting was the culmination of a dispute that began in Fat City and continued as the individuals involved drove away in separate vehicles.
Further investigation revealed that Fructuoso was a passenger in a pickup truck when the shooting occurred. As the truck traveled on the service road, a vehicle pulled alongside, and shots were fired, striking Fructuoso. He was rushed to a local hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Following her arrest, Edna Estrada faced the judicial process. In August 2022, she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. Subsequently, a judge sentenced her to 30 years in prison for her role in the death of Jesus Angel Fructuoso, bringing a measure of closure to a case that began with a senseless act of violence on a Metairie street.
